Countering the shortage of skilled workers and creating more jobs in the footwear industry! New training fair "Step up shoes - #AusbildungStarten" meets with positive response

A successful kick-off! The training fair "Step up Shoes - #AusbildungStarten", which took place on 30 September at the ISC Pirmasens, attracted great interest. Numerous pupils took the opportunity to find out about the various vocational training professions and processes in the shoe industry at the fair.

The project was also well received by the industry. Seven companies and institutions of the regional shoe industry presented the training opportunities in their companies. The following companies were represented with their own stands on site: Carl Semler Schuhfabrik, Kennel & Schmenger, Josef-Seibel Schuhfabrik, Solor Schuhforschung & Entwicklung, Steitz Secura, ISC Germany and the Deutsche Schuhfachschule (DSF).
The fair can be considered a great success, especially in these times with many restrictions due to the Corona Pandemic. "Since no educational fairs took place and the companies were unfortunately unable to offer internships in the spring, it was great that we were able to point out the exciting training opportunities in our industry with this event," says HDS/L Chairman Carl-August Seibel, pleased with the success of the fair.

As part of the "Summer of Vocational Training" under the hashtag #AusbildungStarten, the Federal Government, the Provinces, the Federal Employment Agency and the economy are promoting dual training to young people. "The training fair in Pirmasens is our regional contribution to the Summer of Vocational Training," adds Dr Kerstin Schulte, PFI and ISC Institute Director.
At the training fair in Pirmasens, the diversity of apprenticeships in the shoe industry became clear. The spectrum ranges from administrative and IT professions to industry-specific apprenticeships leading to a qualification as a shoe maker. Especially in these times, dual training is the path to a successful future. Markus Weissenegger, Human Resources Manager at Kennel & Schmenger and member of the Vocational Training Committee of the HDS/L, also draws a positive conclusion: "Despite all adversities, we have made a strong case for this training fair in Pirmasens. The success proves us right. The Corona crisis must not become a apprenticeship and career crisis."
